Description: The Southern California Bight region is show with an overlay of the CCE LTER grid and associated stations off the US West Coast. Image created by Mason Kortz. Software: SIO Ocean Informatics using GMT. Created By: Mason Kortz Date: 2008-09-18 00:00:00
Description: The Southern California Bight region is shown with an overlay of 66 CCE LTER/CalCOFI stations onto image with land shown as green to brown and ocean as white to blue. Image provided by J. Wilkinson. Software: CalCOFI, SIO composit work. Created By: Jim Wilkinson Date: 2008-09-18 00:00:00
Description: The image shows the sampling are in the Southern California Bight region for the CCE LTER program. The land as true color is from ADEOS-II GLI imagery. Satellite ocean color image illustrating elevated phytoplankton concentrations close to the coastal boundary, highlighting mesoscale spatial structure. (Brown = land, white = clouds, phytoplankton biomass from red (= high) to (= low)). Image created by Mati Kahru. Software: Scripps Photobiology Group using WIM. Description: The Southern California Bight region is shown with the land as true color from an Orbview-2 SeaWIFS image. The ocean is colored illustrating bottom topography white to blue (shallow to deep respectively). Image created by Haili Wang. Software: Scripps Photobiology Group using SeaDAS and GMT. Description: The Southern California Bight region is shown with an overlay of the 66 CCE LTER/ CalCOFI stations. The image is true color cloud-free composite of the earth from 2001 NASA Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite images. The image was enhanced with shaded relief imagery derived from the USGS GTOPO30 digital elevation data. ESRI georeferenced these data to a real world coordinate system. Image created Thomas J. Moore. Software: NOAA/NMFS/SWFSC using GIS base map data NASA Visible Earth cloud free 1km resolution, ESRI. Created By: Thomas J. Moore Date: 2008-09-18 00:00:00

Description: The California Current Ecosystem (CCE) LTER site is located off the southern coast of California, extending from San Diego north to San Luis Obispo and westward over 500 km (shown in red with dots as sampling stations). This area comprises an ecosystem that includes the California Current (indicated by blue southward arrows), which is the eastern current of the North Pacific Gyre. This gyre is a system of currents that circulate water around the north Pacific Ocean. A complex set of fronts and eddies are associated with the California Current.
