Education, Outreach, and Capacity Building
Our Education, Outreach, and Capacity Building program teams scientists with local scientific and educational facilities engaging the 'K through gray' community in both the process and the understanding gained from this research. We train undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars across disciplinary boundaries. Through collaborations with formal and informal science education organizations, we reach many schoolchildren each year, including local low-income and minority students.
The California Current Long Term Ecological Research (CCE LTER) has been featured in Explorations, the magazine of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. Here you'll find the importance of conducting long-term research, a brief overview of the site's hypothesis-driven experiments, podcasts from lead PI Mark Ohman, animated videos of the California Current and more.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps serves as the outreach hub for the CCE
LTER program, connecting public and education communities with
California Current Ecosystem research and discoveries.
Birch Aquarium
CCE LTER is partnered with the Ocean Institute and it's hands-on
Ocean Education program, which provides K-12 students and teachers
with immersion-style programs.
